The Italian queen Margherita, wife of King Ulberto I, visited the city of Naples in 1889. She expressed the wish to taste a local specialty, so the chef Raffaele Esposito of the pizzeria Brandi prepared this pizza. Queen Marguerite was extremely charmed by this pizza featuring the colours of the Italian flag: green, white and red. That's why the Italian queen decided to send a thank-you letter to Chef Esposito who answered by giving her name to the pizza.
